Wúxiàn always started out his stories of Hánguāng Jūn with the same prologue. Once, an impertinent child had accused him of saying the same thing every time, complaining, “You spend so much time on how he looks! When are you gonna get to the good part?”
In response, Wúxiàn had simply laughed, full-bodied and light. “We will get there when we get there,” was his mirthful response once the laugh left his stomach.

Summary
There’s nothing wrong with how Cheng Xiaoshi chooses to display his affection, really, it’s just that Lu Guang is overwhelmed and also a little terrified by the mere intensity of it. Qiao Ling doesn’t even seem to notice that anything’s changed, so maybe he’s the one being weird about it at all.
Or: Cheng Xiaoshi is showing symptoms of being in love and Lu Guang doesn’t know what to do with himself.

“Come on,” Lu Guang says. “The sooner we go in, the sooner we can come out.”
Cheng Xiaoshi nods and keeps his thoughts to himself. He looks up at the house in front of them. It almost looks like it’s growing, looming taller and darker over them, ready to swallow them all whole. There’s a lack of light that lends an air of hopelessness to the scene.
He follows Lu Guang inside, flashlight in hand.
