Ash’s pulse stutters into action. “I fucking told you -” he snaps, turning to face his friend. “I said I was gonna-”
“I thought you’d just, like - throw a rock at a window! Not really-”
Ash is already fuming. “I told you I meant it, I fucking told you, dumbass, you knew -”
“It’s my goddamn truck!”

Summary
In the bedroom, he’s as dishonest as a confessional. It’s awful, his position here: a refusal to participate, a plea to be let in. The approximation of love. It’s as open as he’ll ever be. It’s the biggest lie he’s ever told. There’s a part of every film where you can see past the body and look right at Ash, begging to be let go. He wants to rewind, do the night over again.
Shorter’s always stopped him before.

“You came back,” he chokes out, half tired and entirely wrung out. “Shorter-”
Shorter tousles his hair, lips pressed to a thin, worried smile. “Don’t be an idiot,” he tells Ash, “I never left.”
“I abandoned you,” he says hollowly. It’s the worst thing he’s ever said.
“Stupid,” he says softly. “You just did what you had to.”

He squeezes his eyes shut, trying to be brave. “Just get it over with,” he whispers.
“Get what over with?”
Ash opens his eyes. Shorter is staring at him, face full of concern enough to turn a stomach and there’s this lurch in his throat and he stumbles forward, suddenly furious and full of grief, and fists his hand deep in Shorter’s hair. Pulling his head up, angling his lips so they could just slot together. Bracing for a kiss.
Shorter makes a startled sound and tenses, pulling back just before Ash’s mouth can make contact and leaving his neck at an awkward sort of vulnerability. “Ash,” he begins, wary, “what are we doing?”
“Why haven’t you fucked me yet?” Ash asks softly, nosing his way down Shorter’s jaw towards the juncture of his ear.
