The name left her before she could think. They hugged briefly. When they sat, she forced herself to meet Lexa’s bright green eyes, vivid even behind the black-rimmed glasses that framed her face. She looked twenty, maybe, barely older than her daughter Madi. Was she actually that young, or did she just have a baby face? Asking outright felt rude.

The word soulmate is so overused in literature that the word feels cheapened. Then again, how could one word possibly give justice to 100 years of a love so tragic that it burned and cooled almost within the span of a few months. How could one word describe the chasm in her heart, the poignant pain in her chest, the part inside of her that forever changed with Lexa’s death. How could one word describe a feeling so sweet, yet bitter at times, but never a dying ember; rather one that continues to burn bright and strong. How could one describe a woman who saw the ugliness within, and loved Clarke that much more. How does one go about describing their greatest love?
