Summary
They look at each other for a long moment; long enough to make He Tian regret poking a bear he’s only just discovered. There’s a strange anticipation in the air as if Guan Shan is waiting for him to push them off a precipice and into a familiar chasm, but it wouldn't be worth it.
They haven’t fought for weeks. And they did, for all intents and purposes, have an objectively good evening together. He Tian is on track to upheave all of that over a single word.
It’s warranted, a voice inside him says, quickly followed by: It’s selfish.

Summary
It couldn’t have meant so little, stardust in the face of planets. It couldn’t have meant so little because, if it did, Guan Shan would no longer be able to recognize himself as the person he became in the aftermath.
He’d be hollowed out, stripped of the lessons learned and the changed perspectives like loose threads on a tapestry being pulled apart. He couldn’t bear the thought that all of this — the fighting, the understanding, the falling, the loss, the violent and unceremonious unearthing — had been for nothing.
It was too painful to have been for nothing.
or: seven years later, he tian and jian yi return home. everyone has some healing to do.

Summary
He Tian acts in moments.
One moment he’s here, the next he’s there. One moment he’s kind, the next he’s sly. One moment he’s cuffed, the next he has Guan Shan’s jaw in a grip and a look in his eye that sharpens with a breathy thank you on Guan Shan’s lips. And it sounds nothing like gratitude but rather something more heated, more urgent, and no, it’s not gratitude — it’s a prelude.
Thank you, it says, for what you’re about to give me.

Summary
19 Days Coffee Shop AU!
Mo Guan Shan is the happy, sole owner of a coffee shop that runs noon to midnight. He did not expect a half-drunk, half-asleep member of the mafia to wander into his cafe. He definitely did not expect to offer said mafia member a safe place to retire. Several months later, He Tian has moved into the room above his store, and- against all odds and his better judgement- the pair has formed an unlikely friendship.
Old fears start to pose challenges though, and caffeine does not, despite what He Tian insists, solve all problems.

Summary
Carefully, He Tian moves away from the door, closer to Guan Shan. He lifts a hand and reaches out to touch his bare back. Guan Shan freezes.
“I thought you were abroad until September.”“I wanted to see you sooner,” He Tian says, voice low as his knuckles trace the bumps of Guan Shan’s spine. It’s daring - they didn’t part ways on very good terms the last time. They rarely do. The move might earn him a hook but the pull is magnetic. “Waiting six months was too long.”
It’s always a gamble when he returns from his travels, a game of russian roulette but as long as Guan Shan agrees to play, He Tian will take the hits. He doesn’t fear the lead.

Or He Tian returns, like he does too rarely, in the beginning of May.

Summary
“I’m looking for my friends!”
The guy gasped and shot at him, clearly taken off guard. He missed and, rather than taking another shot at him, visibly froze; a normal stress response from a novice gunman. A relatively sad one, given the circumstances.
“Two demons and an angel. One’s a redhead, one’s mute, and the other is my husband. Have you seen any of them?”
Yellow placed his gun against the guy's helmet and pushed until he tripped backwards and fell, dropping his weapon in the process. Yellow crouched to get in his face and, feeling the slight tremble below him, let his grin stretch wide.

This took me 4.5 years to finish so writing style noticeably changes as the story progresses. Forgive me.

Summary
They don’t have to sit on a bed, naked knees pressing together to carry this through, but Guan Shan doesn’t move. He remains there, back stiff in apprehension yet slightly leaning into He Tian’s careful gaze, into his touch, hands curled to fists over his thighs. He Tian’s too big, he must have a gravitational pull, that must be why Guan Shan can’t fucking seem to keep him at arm’s length. It’s science.
Or a deeper dive into the piercing scene.
