Maysilee tosses her head side-to-side over her shoulder, gives the area a good scan before approaching him, ensuring no one is creeping around, ready to stab her in the back as she’s distracted. “Wyatt?” she calls out to him once she deems them alone, stepping closer and closer.
From his crouched position, he gradually, tiredly looks up at her. She tongues the salt off her teeth, allowing herself to stare at the state he’s in. Irises glassy and sick, his skin clammy, dotted in his own blood. Springs of it spill down his mangled arm—what’s left of it, at least. He’s clutching onto himself like a lifeline. “Maysilee.” is all he says, and then his eyes roll back to the whites as he passes out.

Maysilee’s cheeks ache with a smile. “You’re a smart man, Wyatt.” she tiredly points up at him, “knew you’d support me.”
“I mean, I probably would’ve supported you even if you said it to him unprovoked.”
A bursting laugh comes out of her then. Wyatt’s expression is as serious as ever.
