“I mean, just imagine, the two of us and Cas and Eileen, a nice wide beach and breakfast at the pool, sleeping in...you could learn how to surf and me and Cas could do some yoga…”, Sam babbles some more and Dean snorts at that image, but turns serious again real quick.
Because seriously.
Why the fuck not?
“Okay”, he finally interrupts Sam’s speech about trying new food and how they never swam in the ocean and do you think Cas knows how to swim? and Sam falls silent.
“Okay?”, he echoes and Dean shrugs.
“Yeah, okay. You’re right, we really deserve this. So let’s do it.”

Summary
When hunting for the Leviathan blossom, Castiel gets taken. Tired, desperate and wanting to tell him all the things left unsaid before it’s too late, Dean prays to him. But he realises... standing there, in the grey hellish landscape, the portal home flickering just beside them with seconds left on the timer, they were already too late.
Running himself ragged fuelled solely by caffeine, whisky, and that trademark Winchester determination, he will find a way to stop Chuck and to save Cas. However, this isn't the blaze of glory Dean had always envisioned going out in. But, deep down, he would go out swinging to save a loved one. Those bright shining penetrating tear-soaked eyes are the last thing he sees before his vision is marred, the desperate plea of his name dampened by the black ooze filling his eardrums as the essence of the Empty wraps around him and pulls him from existence into the dark.
All because of that simple prayer, the ending Chuck had always planned was rewritten.

And then keeps coming back on Thursdays. He doesn’t seem to have much choice in the matter, actually. For the rest of the week, he’s stuck in the Empty, and Dean is left trying to figure out how to save him, how to talk to him—and how to get him out for good.

“How the fuck do you know my name?” Dean hisses.
The man doesn’t look scared. He is watching Dean like there is nothing else worth watching, lips a little parted, eyes a little soft. And blue. Real blue, like the ocean on a postcard.
The ice spreading down Dean’s spine makes him shiver.
“I suppose you could say I’m your guardian angel,” the man murmurs. His breath fogs pale between them. All of him is unnaturally warm, like Dean’s touching somebody with the sun sewn up beneath their skin. “I have known you, Dean Winchester, for a very long time.”
