Summary
“These events are too connected to be coincidence,” Elder Faerie murmured, rifling through pages without looking up. They’d been at this for nearly half an hour, going in circles. “White Cosmos Cookie didn’t just die. He was made to die. The killer is clever. And cruel.”
The Sage tilted his head, pretending to consider. “But it’s suicide. Clear as day. Why invent a conspiracy?”
Elder Faerie didn’t reply, just slid a paper across the table. Crumpled, frantic handwriting. A confession.
“The third one this month,” he said. “Three cookies dead. Three letters. Each confessing to serious crimes. Each ending in death. Tell me that’s normal.”
—I was the one who tricked Apple Juice Cookie into the brothel. She thought she was going to be married. I didn’t mean to… she was beautiful, that’s all—
“How vile,” Sage said quietly. “And to think the great alchemist White Cosmos was hiding that. You’d expect a man like that to bury his guilt, not die with it.”

Most people forgot that the Sage of Truth was once the feared Beast of Deceit, cruel and devoted. To embrace Truth is like to embrace Deceit, you have to taint your hands to get the point across.

Summary
“I just want to know,” he said carefully. This is a bad idea. “Is Shadow Milk your real name?”
He tensed, waiting for a reaction. A jab, an insult, maybe a swift exit.
His hand tightened on the staff.
Instead—
Shadow Milk laughed.
It wasn’t the usual sharp-edged, smug kind of laugh. It was looser, but not in a way that suggested ease.
“What kind of question is that?” He dismissed it with a wave, his usual smirk returning. “I can’t imagine having any other name, Vanilly. Shadow Milk fits me, don’t you think?”
