Over the quiet chorus of crickets and rustling leaves, he hears soft footsteps approaching, muffled by the loamy ground. Or maybe he feels it, more than hears it. Feels the presence of the person as they move to sit cross-legged next to him. Knows who it is, despite the fact that it’s been a year since he’s felt that buzzing awareness, that focus that warms the back of his neck but somehow also makes him want to shiver.

This was such a nostalgic read (even though I wasn’t in fandom at the time this was written). I actually read this once and then listened to it a second time, which really highlighted some of the delicious nuances of the character interactions. The ending was also so sweet and promising. I enjoyed this immensely.

I would love this for the mental image of Draco in a Seven of Nine catsuit alone...just...mindblown. (And if you’re not familiar with Star Trek, here you go.) I really like all the small details that show that Harry is from the USA and Draco is British. (Harry also refers to the USA as “the States”, which I deeply appreciate.) While you definitely don’t need to be familiar with Star Trek to enjoy this story, the small Star Trek references made me smile. This isn’t a setting I would have thought of, which makes it even better. This is definitely a gem of a read.

Harry is absolutely oblivious to his own feelings and keeps getting more and more vexed while convincing himself that he's merely suspicious of a new coworker. Harry just gets more and more frustrated, and even the weather seems to agree. Meanwhile, Draco has had enough. Though This Be Madness
by AhaMarimbas, gameofdrarrymod, Kristinabird, Nifflers_n_narglesIt's rare to find the fake dating premise being conveyed in epistolary form, and this story definitely used the medium to its advances. I don't want to spoil the delightfulness of it, but needless to say that everything feels very intentional, including the choice of salutations! The use of the first letter as the proposition of an arrangement is perfectly logical, and the back and forth is exactly as long as it needs to be. Definitely read between the lines, and enjoy the delicious emotions lying just beneath the surface. I would definitely consider this an ergodic fanfiction if you're partial to ergodic literature.
