“I…” Pencil knows what Match is asking her to say. It’s obvious. Pencil isn’t a stranger to saying it either, since she’s had enough boyfriends (and her fair share of girlfriends, too) to know when to slip in the words “I love you,” into the conversation. Pencil’s said it multiple times to Needle, and it came off easily—hell, it rolled off the tongue. Yet, this time, it’s so hard for her voice to comply with her brain’s orders, because instead of actually speaking like it had done for Pencil’s entire life, her tongue stands numb and heavy in her mouth, unwilling to let any noise other than a grating choking sound out.

“Wait.” Gelatin says abruptly, taking his hand off of Firey’s shoulder. “What if we actually were gay?”
“Huh?” Firey says after a moment, just now processing Gelatin’s words.
“Not like that, bro. You’re dumb as hell.” Firey makes a ‘hmph’ sound at this. “I mean, like, gay chicken. The game. Where we pretend we’re gay, and whoever chickens out is the real gay dude.” Gelatin looks at Firey with a completely neutral expression, save for his eyes, which have a dangerous sparkle in them.

Over the years, some have suggested that the reason she’s not in touch with her feelings is mainly because she never had them in the first place. Golf Ball thought the idea to be stupid. No one is born without emotions—that is improbable and most likely impossible. Sure, nothing is ever impossible… but, when it comes to something similar to the erratic concept of feelings… Well, Golf Ball hates to admit she’s a bit unsure.
