“Rubia castrosa, why don’t you ever participate in trivia night? Bet you can win everything with all the books you bring.”
“I’m studying, duh.”
“Nah, jodeme, didn’t even notice.” Sarcasm spills easily from her mouth, even when she is tired from her continuous work, flows as quickly and gracefully as her mother tongue.
Misty swears every time she switches up to Spanish is just to mock her, but can’t guess the words fast enough to jot them down, her face feels hotter, and her mind lags when it happens.
“Name is Mari. Gotta tell you, rubia, didn’t expect you to last.”
“And, my name is Misty, not Rr—rub…”
“It means blondie, aguafiestas.”
“Oh, that’s…not as bad.” Misty muses, really thinking she was being insulted for months, and yet she kept going for it. “You know if you want me gone should’ve told me. After all, I have been told I don’t get obvious hints.”
