As soon as Harry's name came out of the Goblet of Fire, Hermione observes the Great Hall. Who doesn't believe Harry, who worries and would help them? Adults have failed them so many times, so maybe be a bit more independent this time, and maybe search for someone who does care. But who? And why bother with jealous Ron, all that matters is to keep Harry alive?
Or: Hermione makes a plan to keep Harry alive during the Tournament, and if they discover some of Dumbledore's negligent oversights in the process...doesn't hurt to correct things, does it?

During their time on the run, Harry and Hermione spoke about a future and its fantasies when (Hermione) or if (Harry) they survive. 2 years after the War, while she survived, Hermione knows this isn't the future she fought for. She feels stuck and depleated; for all her work and blood, the Wizarding World still can't take a muggleborn Minister, or any high-ranking muggleborn. Hermione, always a planner and with unyielding ambition, feels stuck in stalemate while she works at the Ministry. Add the loss of Crookshanks, and now, her parents, Hermione feels herself sinking so deep she can't remember what she fought for.
Since he was 11, Hermione Granger has protected Harry Potter. Now, Harry decides it's time for him to protect her, and a spur-of-the-moment portkey leads to their biggest adventure yet. With only a suitcase and portkey, Harry and Hermione travel across the globe. The further (and longer) they stay away from the UK, the more Harry and Hermione are able to heal their fractures. Sometime along the way, they find themselves falling in love.
