It has been years since any humans have lived in the cabin. But Slugma diligently keeps the fire going, hot enough to warm the whole cabin, even though she’s the only one here who needs it. She has to, though, because if Slugma doesn’t keep moving, the magma in her veins will cool and she will harden and shatter. -

Nephenisse is a siren in a kingdom where her entire species is looked down upon. Xe wishes for a way out, and one day xe seems to get one.
Leon is a young royal. Rebellious and inattentive to his duties, he wanders off to the sea in search of a chance at love. His brother's law forbids the upper class from mixing with, much less dating, those deemed as common. A category that sirens like Nephenisse are at the bottom of. Yet, as per usual, she defies her brother, expecting no consequence.
Well, things don't go as planned.

“Oh, of course! Satchmo was such fantastic company,” Annalee cooed, giving Satchmo more pets. The dog ate up her attention like treats. “And your nephew, of course. Had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. I hope you don’t mind that I let him in.”
Peter and Elizabeth shared a look. “Nephew?” Elizabeth asked, racking her brain for any part of her family that might identify as her nephew. “I don’t have a nephew. Peter, do you have a nephew?”
Neal got the Burkes' dog sitter to let him in so he could plant some scavenger hunt clues. And also steal and replace their bedside table lamp. They needed an upgrade.

It turns out, passing out in a CVS is a great way to make people very, very worried about you. Neal refuses to go to a hospital, but the very nice woman who realized how sick he was decides to take him home and help nurse him back to health. This seems like a stroke of unimagineably good luck until he realizes her husband is the FBI agent who is trying to arrest him.
