Summary
But losing Bombay wasn’t the only thing gnawing at him. If that had been the end of it, maybe Charlie could’ve found a way to deal with the change. Maybe he could’ve coped with Bombay leaving, telling himself they were growing up, that things changed, that he had to move forward. But losing Adam Banks? That was a whole different kind of pain.
OR:
"Charlie lost two of the best and most important people in his life when he joined the Warriors."

Summary
Adam swallowed hard, the weight of her words pressing down on him. His mom had threatened to leave before, but she’d never said it like this. His heart raced as he stepped closer to the doorway, careful not to make a sound.
His dad spoke again, but his voice had dropped lower. “Where are you going?”
“I need to get out of here. I can’t breathe in this house.”
Adam heard the sound of keys jangling, the front door creaking open. He moved just in time to see his mom walk out, the door closing with a soft thud behind her.
The house fell into silence again, but this time it wasn’t the kind of silence that came with peace. It was thick, tense, like the calm before a storm. Adam stood frozen in the hallway, his heart thudding in his chest. He heard his dad curse under his breath, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps pacing in the living room.

Summary
He wanted to say something. He wanted to ask Charlie why. Why now? Why this close to the wedding? Why hadn’t they talked about this years ago, when maybe–just maybe–they could have figured it out before Charlie’s life had become so tangled up with Linda’s?
But he didn’t ask. He couldn’t.
Because the truth was, Adam wasn’t ready for those answers. He wasn't ready to face what this meant–for either of them.
So instead, he just looked at Charlie. Looked at the man who had been his best friend for so many years. The man he had loved in ways he wasn’t supposed to. The man who was about to marry someone else, and walk out of Adam’s life in a way he might never come back from.
And then, without a word, Adam turned and walked out the door.

Summary
“Pony?” A soft voice pulled him from the haze of guilt and fear. Soda was awake, his tired eyes reflecting the faint light from the streetlamp outside. His hair was tousled, and his voice was thick with sleep, bit there as worry in it. “You okay, kid?”
Ponyboy swallowed, his throat dry. “Yeah. Just another nightmare.”
Soda sat up, rubbing a hand over his face. He didn’t say anything at first, just looked at Pony the way he always did on nights like these–calm, patient, like he was waiting for Pony to say more.
Pony didn’t. He couldn’t. Not about this. Not about the nightmare that was really more a memory, and not about the fight earlier tonight with Darry. Darry, who’d shouted at him again, bitter words flying between them like arrows. Darry, who worked his hands raw to put food on the table, who’d given up everything because Pony couldn’t remember the damn frosting.

Summary
It wasn’t fair. Charlie knew that, deep down. Adam hadn’t asked to be thrown into varsity; he hadn’t asked to be part of this mess, to be yanked from the Ducks to join the older team. But knowing that didn’t make it hurt any less. Knowing it didn’t stop the bitterness that festered in Charlie’s chest as he spotted Adam standing outside the campus gates, looking like he was waiting for something–or someone.
Charlie’s fists clenched at his sides as he approached, footsteps heavy and full of purpose. Adam didn’t notice him at first, but when he did, his blue eyes widened in surprise.
“Charlie,” Adam called out, his voice calm but cautious, like he was trying to avoid setting off a bomb.
Too late.

Summary
It was towards the end of sophomore year and Adam Banks was the #1 ranked hockey player in the state; a major prospect. Charlie had climbed the ladder, with all the ups and downs, but he was, at last, in the top ten. They both received an invitation to a prestigious national talent camp, along with some of the other Ducks. Adam and Charlie had always been best friends, despite their competitive nature. They had repaired their bond after fall of freshman year, and they had been close ever since. Until now. Do they have any idea where they stand? Who are they to each other? What are the lengths they’re willing to go until it all instantaneously comes crashing down?

Summary
“Do you feel better? Because I… I think I do. I don’t know. This has been completely insane. Do you think we’ll ever get a normal gig at the Orpheum for once in our lives—er, afterlives?”
“I don’t feel like I’m being drained of energy anymore, no,” Reggie says. “But I’m with Julie—I’m exhausted. I didn’t think I could feel tired anymore!”
After playing at the Orpheum, the boys find themselves more and more life-like.
