He can’t keep looking at it, waiting for a hand that isn't there anymore. He can't ride the escalators where they used to bicker. He can’t sit on the trains where they’d whisper about murder over bags of shopping and lukewarm Costa coffee. He can’t walk the platforms where Sherlock used to stride ahead and glance back only to make sure John was still behind him.
He can’t do it.
Sherlock is dead, and yet somehow John is still behind him. Waiting for him to glance back.

John’s cursor flashed at him, motionless and reprimanding. He should finish writing up that case, John thought absently, but he found himself completely ignoring this sound advice and creating a new post instead.
Then- don’t ask him how or why or any bloody question because John really had no clue- he started writing.
Dear Sherlock***
John Watson- divorced at 37, recently moved back home, tentatively in love with his best friend- has had a lot to deal with recently. Finding his way back to his old life isn't simple, not even when Sherlock makes it as natural as breathing. He figures, if writing silly love notes takes a little off his shoulders, what could be the harm? It's not like Sherlock would ever know.
(Sherlock must not know, dear god- not when it could mess up everything John worked so hard to come back to.)
In between dangerous new cases, ridiculous new pets, injuries and broken hearts, Sherlock and John slowly find their way to where they belong. And perhaps that is- and always was- together.
