The stars go on and on, and Aang remembers falling off a bridge of light, and is silent for a long, long while before he says, “I got it. For a moment. The last chakra. But then I died, and some other things happened, I don’t know whether I can still control the avatar state, but I did when I fought the Fire Lord, but—Guru, did I fail? Everything feels out of balance now. Just my chi is still a mess, never mind the chakras. I thought I’d opened most of them with you.”
The slow grinding of onion stops for a moment, and Pathik laughs, light and not unkind. “Oh, Aang. Should I wash my beggar’s bowl once and expect it to stay clean for three years?”

He says it’s his birthright, and in a way, he’s right— not because he has Bruce’s DNA, but because his father is dead, and this is all he has left. Haven’t we all been there?

I looked down at my feet and just kind of didn’t think about anything.
Well, I thought about my feet. They don’t have any organic parts, which I’m grateful for. If they did, it might be possible this room, my room, would have that dirty-sock human smell. I liked that it didn’t. I liked….my feet. Which sounds even weirder than it feels, but whatever.
The list of things I could say I like without scare quotes is a short one. I like media. I like soft hooded sweatshirts, pants with lots of sealable pockets, Dr. Mensah, and small, soft humans and augmented humans who listen to me and let me prevent them from getting murdered or eaten. And okay, I’ll admit it. I like ART when it’s not under the intolerable impression that we’re having some kind of sweaty human-ish relationship with digital analogs for sex.
