Liam was living a pretty decent life despite being a orphan. Living with a old, but crazy artificer who doesn't worship the Gods for some reason and uses him as both a magic battery and a servant/work hand. But it was better than living on the Streets until one of the Temples and/or dark cults snatch him up. Even if said old weirdo had a very strange rule that he HEAVILY enforced: NEVER use his magic outside the home.

Sun helps him through it and gives him a place to stay. But Atlas has too much trauma that makes him unable to accept anything. Without knowing it, Sun and Atlas are learning how to deal with their personal issues by seeing themselves in the other.
