“I was unaware that you and Doctor Strange had broken up,” JARVIS said, sounding concerned. At least Tony had JARVIS. JARVIS wouldn’t leave him. JARVIS didn’t think Tony was too much or not enough or somehow wrong in some way that was too intrinsic to who Tony was for Tony to ever fix it.
Tony laughed, hurting. “That’s why we’re on countdown. Doomsday incoming. Or whatever they call it. T minus 1.” One. One day. One week. Maybe they might even get as far as one month, but that was something of a stretch goal. “Want to make a bet on it, J? How long we have before Stephen calls it quits. Once I’m too much for him to stick around for.” Too much. Not enough. That was the story of Tony’s life. Why had Tony ever let himself believe that Stephen would be different than anyone else?

“Coach Lasso!” He calls, springing to his feet. But, as he approaches Lasso, it becomes abundantly clear that something is wrong. He instantly gives up on the quote. “Are you okay?” He asks instead.
“Trent Crimm.” Lasso responds with possibly the fakest smile Trent has ever seen. Trent waits for him to follow it up, but he doesn’t say anything else.
“The Independent.” Trent finishes for him, his concern growing. “Are you okay?” He asks again.
Lasso looks down. “I’m afraid I don’t have a comment for readers today, Trent.”
Trent follows his gaze and settles on the open notebook in his hand. “Fuck. No.” He puts the notebook away. “Off the record, Ted.”
In which Trent keeps showing up instead of Sassy whenever Ted has a panic attack.

She falls to the floor crying.
And then, however long later, she thinks I’ve fallen to the floor crying, but there’s an element of ridiculousness to it – she had known it was coming, had known the second James had turned from the door shouting “Lily, it’s him!” and, even worse, while she’s on the floor crying she looks at his still face and realises his glasses are crooked.
It’s only when Sirius’ shaking fingers straighten them that she truly registers that she’s not alone in her grief and she lets herself fall further and he holds her up.
It’s Halloween night, 1981, Lily Potter is alive, her family is not, and outside the war continues.
