“Oh, right,” Buck nods, punching in the digits on autopilot. “Thanks.”

“God,” Eddie mutters, “it’s like I’m your husband.” And Buck’s entire being freezes, for just a moment. The machine beeps at him, and all he can do is stare blankly at it for a moment before flushing and yanking his card out. “Or – wife?” Eddie muses. Buck isn’t even looking at him, but he knows exactly what face he makes. “No, I’m gonna go with husband.”

The cashier is watching them like they’re a particularly riveting television show. All Buck can think to say is, “You’re not hot enough to be my husband.” Lie. The biggest lie in the world.

    Summary

Raphael shot him a trademarked Withering Look. Simon received so many of those from him, he should start ranking and reviewing them. This one was a solid seven point five.

Simon struggled to stop giggling and school his expression into something adjacent to earnest. He knew that Raphael was aware he was messing with him, but somehow that made it even more fun. “Do stores deliver here? Does this place, like, come up on Google Maps?” He gasped as an idea struck him. “Wait a second… you’re super old.” Trying extremely hard to keep his mouth from twitching, he fixed Raphael with a very serious, very earnest look, gazing into his eyes earnestly, with lots and lots of earnestness.

Raphael’s eyes were very dark, with almost no difference in color between the pupil and iris, black like obsidian. They were striking in combination with the bold arches of his eyebrows, and Simon faltered for a moment, feeling an odd urge to break eye contact, but he kept looking. “Do you know what the Internet is?” he asked.

Now, this Withering Look was definitely at least a nine.

Simon stands in front of the microphone, his name written messily on a karaoke roster beside the 80's love ballad.

“Okay Stan, but it’s a duet. Are you volunteering to be my Swayze?”

Stan scoffs, pushes himself out of the chair. “Well, I do look good in a leather jacket.”

Raphael parts the crowd, pins Simon with a determined, claiming stare.

“Sit down, Stan. We all know who wears the leather jackets around here.”

    ........

Or...the time that Simon declared his love for Raphael via karaoke and Raphael serenaded his Baby.

    Summary

Simon jolts awake with a hoarse scream, gasping for air that he no longer needs. Several long moments pass before he’s able to get his bearings, remember where he is and what the hell is going on. It takes a few seconds for his eyes to focus, but when they do, Simon realizes that someone’s in the room with him, standing at the foot of his bed.

“It’s okay,” the voice says, “You’re safe.”

There’s a familiarity there, but it takes a second for Simon’s brain to process why he knows it.

    “Raphael?”

    “Yeah.”

The dream is still fresh in his mind, so fresh that he reaches an unsteady hand up to press against his teeth. The lingering taste of blood in his mouth feels so real that Simon almost doesn’t believe it when his hand comes back clean.

“Did I…? Did I hurt them?”

Raphael shakes his head. “No. You were dreaming.”
