    Dream knows of all the suffering he's caused his family, and he feels really bad for it.

    It wasn't always this way.

    After weeks and weeks of fighting with the storms inside his head, it all becomes too much.

    Thinking he's too far gone and too broken for any chance of redemption, Dream comes up with a plan.
    He doesn't want anyone's last memories of him to be sour or filled with malice. He doesn't want to be sealed in the history pages as someone who lived a tyrant, someone who died a tyrant. So, he tries his best to repair the relationships he's broken.

    Then, he leaves. However, his friends aren't too far behind.

    On the brink of death, feeling his body begin to numb, he calls upon someone he hoped to forget in a last-ditch effort to restore his body to a younger version. When he wakes, he's in a strange world dominated by a man named Dream, which seems to also be his name.

    Kid Dream learns to navigate the unfamiliar world he was thrown into with a legacy to fulfill. Everyone else sees this as an opportunity to get what they want from him.
    (I take some liberties on the lore so it'll diverge from the main SMP storyline following the events of Dream and Tommy in prison)
