Summary
"Wh- who are you?" She trembled slightly. It was then that Simon noticed not only how frail she looked, but that she was wearing nothing but a thin nightgown. Not even wearing her slippers. She had to be freezing. At least she wasn't in the rain, only getting misted from the wind blowing droplets in.
"I, erm..." What was he supposed to say? Hi, I'm your daughter, all grown up. She'd not believe that. She was traumatized, not stupid. He didn't want to lie, either. Not to her. "Simon. I'm... Simon..." He settled for the truth. At least part of it. "He won't, erm, won't bother you. Anymore." Ghost normally didn't struggle so much for words, but seeing his mum regard him with fear as she was, it was unsettling and threw him off. He wanted nothing but to hug her.
Ghost wasn't sure how he'd gotten here, in the past, faced with his younger self at age twelve, but he was sure of one thing; he was going to give himself and his younger brother a better life than they'd originally had.

Lieutenant John Price stared into the black glassy eyes of a beast he had never seen before, and felt a fear completely foreign to him. Crouched low, it watched him through the bars of his cell. Ghost, under threat of another psychological evaluation from both his CO and therapist, has been forced to partake in a penpal programme with another soldier in order to "practise empathy" and "re-establish human connection." He hates it until he doesn't.
MacTavish willingly volunteers for the SAS's new penpal programme because what the hell, it could be fun. And when his penpal ends up being adorably emotionally constipated, well, that certainly doesn't hurt.

Summary
Soap is a PhD student, doing his research in Antarctica on the behaviors and hunting habits of leopard seals. During his expedition, he becomes obsessed with a leucistic seal, who he's taken to calling Ghost.
His attempts at tagging Ghost for tracking purposes have all failed, leaving Soap frustrated, but determined to try again. He won't stop until he gets the data he needs for his dissertation.
At the same time, Soap is stuck in an escalating, heated flirting match with a hydroponics employee at another base. It's foolish to form romantic relationships with someone he knows will vanish from his life once their expeditions are over, but there's something fascinating about this man that he can't ignore.
