And Sam's really uncomfortable with the whole thing and at some point tells Cas to stop, but he refuses? If Kakashi hadn’t seen Naruto living in squalor and Sasuke’s personal trauma shrine and whatever civilian fuckery was happening at Sakura’s house, he’d have at least tried to fail them even if logic told him the Elder Council would never let it fly. Screw the Hokage for that.

When the Sandaime showed him Naruto’s apartment, he didn’t think that was going to be the tip of the iceberg that was the shitshow of his soon-to-be team. But as it turned out, Naruto wasn't the only one with a less-than-optimal home life. And as it turned out, Kakashi was apparently the only person in Konoha who cared.

Sometimes you just have to do things, that's especially true when you get pressured into it. But who knows? Maybe it'll be fun along the way. Who knows what these three brats are capable of. But training the three of them was harder said than done. Alternate: Kakashi doesn't have a choice; he'll make them the best shinobi possible - and he does not disappoint.
