Summary
Two foster girls, Zoë and Sophie slowly heal from past traumas and fall in love, supported by their best friend Lucas. At least, that's how simple they all wish it was...
Zoë's secret past, the way the world views her (or what she represents) threatens to overwhelm her. Sophie, with her strong dominant streak, has worries and guilt of her own, not to mention that she's only just recovering from an ordeal far worse than any girl her age should be subjected to. They're both damaged, broken, and in desperate need to exert some form of control over their destinies...
~☆~ Builds on the short story 'Regretting her Decisions', a slightly improved (for grammar etc) version of which is included here as the first half of Chapter 1, and contains the spanking (etc., see tags) of 16+ teenagers and f/f plus platonic f/m dom/sub play. Strong hurt/comfort/forgiveness themes.
Set in the same contemporary alternative universe as 'Waif and Stray' but a stand alone plot, no need to have read the other stuff if you aren't into m/m. ~☆~

Rumi shrugs, feeling raw and exposed in the way she always does after kneeling for them.
She considers the question: she just wasn’t brought up that way. There was never any need for praise or affirmation as a form of encouragement. Not when there were other forms so readily available – imminent choking forms, creeping steadily across her body.

Summary
Sussie squawked, and he hopped down to her dresser drawers. Rumi eyed him, not sure what the bird was up as he pecked at the handle. Before she could ask, though, Sussie got the drawer opened, and he hopped inside.
“What are you d—”
His little head emerged with a pacifier in his beak.
“Hey!” Rumi hissed, hopping to her feet. Her face burned as she ran after Sussie, but the bird flew over to her bed’s headboard. “Give me that!” Rumi fussed as quietly as she could. The last thing she needed to do was wake up Mira or Zoey with this. She snatched the pacifier out of Sussie’s beak and glared at him. “How’d you know about this?” she asked. Sussie squawked.
