A spontaneous thought hit her. A ridiculous one. But before she could second-guess it, she acted.
She grabbed his face with both hands and planted a kiss on his cheek. Probably just to tease him. She knew how much he hated being touched.
The amused look vanished from her face when she saw his expression.
He was staring at her, stunned and furious, as if she’d just killed his puppy.. or worse, thrown away his cleaning supplies.

She longs to remember, to know if there was anyone out there who cared that she had survived. But slowly she begins to see it differently. Maybe forgetting is a gift. She does not have to carry the weight of all the pain, unlike those who remember. She can start again with a clean slate.
If only the nightmares would stop - the visions of terrifying, strangely fascinating creatures and the faces of people she must have once loved, now nothing more than blurry shadows she cannot name.
