Although Zhongli did find some things lacking- there wasn’t any explanation as to why the dragon would kidnap and imprison the princess-he did enjoy the story. It’s a simple yet entertaining fairytale.
So imagine his surprise when he woke up inside the fairytale. Not only that but also as a character never mentioned once in the book.

The man was wearing a white yukata that had seen betters days. His long orange hair was unkempt and matted. However, the man made no move to brush it. He didn’t move at all. From where Shinji is standing, he could see how unfocused the man’s eyes were. As he was seeing something Shinji wasn’t allowed to see.
“He’s been like this all day, you say?” Shinji asks Kisuke who was standing beside him.
Kisukes nods, “No movement whatsoever. He occasionally blinks but that’s basically it. I believe it’s the hogyoku’s doing but there could be other things we could factor in.”
Shinji doesn’t say anything back. Just watches the man in the distance. As he stares, Shinji can’t help but wonder what is exactly going on inside Ichigo Shiba’s head.
