Jinx isn’t a handmaid because she’s obedient - she was probably the furthest thing from it. She was a handmaid because her body still worked and because they had tracked her family through the lanes as they tried to escape from the Lanes. That’s all it took in Gilead—just one working womb and a long enough record of bad behaviour to land a person in a red dress and under someone else's roof as they were called a whore.

Silco was a lover of control, he had spent years fighting for it with every tooth and nail in his skull and on his hands. It was worth savouring, after all. Like a fine wine or the smoke of cigar that he would let linger in his mouth. A small taste of luxury that he was willing to share with her, over and over again.
Jinx was the only one who could convince him to relinquish that control, even for just a moment. When Silco, the famous industrialist, had created the upper echelon of Zaun, he had never imagined the consequences this would have on himself as a single man. How quickly the smog based city would turn on him for not producing an heir to continue his lineage - his adopted daughter Jinx not fitting the bill. Being both far too female and not from his own bloodline to even be considered.
But with her newly announced debutante ball quickly approaching and the looming deadline set by the other Chem-Barons for Silco to have a son, Jinx decides to take matters into her own hands and find a solution that could benefit both of their private situations. Offering to ease his problems like an angel.

Caitlyn panicked, feeling extraordinarily unprepared having been thrust into her new position without so much as even a handbook to consult. What were the formalities? What was she supposed to respond with? Where was the damn push to talk button…
“Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”
Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”
There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”

Summary

Meanwhile, in an attempt to satisfy her libido in a loving yet celibate relationship, Caitlyn picks out a prostitute that resembles Vi as best as one can under a mask.
Despite not recognizing each other initially, the two women continue the affair and become entangled in an elaborate web of lies to cover up their betrayal. After an amateur investigation, Caitlyn's dark past causes Jinx's sanity to slip further into madness.
