Summary
Tony Stark is dying.
Between the shards of his own weapon working their way toward his heart and the infection setting in, he's running out of time.
It's a pretty fitting end to a life that has always revolved around death, and maybe that's why an old obsession is coming back to haunt him. Or maybe he's just losing his mind, seeing shadows and hearing a voice calling his name.
But if he isn't imagining things- He'll have to face a ghost that he's done his best to forget. While he still has a chance.

“You never knew my face,” he says.
“I did,” Bucky insists. “You fought the battle maskless. You were at the funeral. I remember that– why don’t I remember your face?”
“... it’s better that you don’t,” he says cryptically.
Bucky can't help but feel like he's forgotten something important, and he doesn't figure it out until Sam asks him to recruit Spider-Man to the Avengers. He knows he used to know the young vigilante's face, and the bitter hero before him isn't the same Spider-Man he met in the airport. Despite Spider-Man's insistence, Bucky knows that no one should go through a life like theirs alone, and he's determined to give him a fresh start.
And just maybe find a new beginning for the Avengers as a whole in the process.
