The worlds of TMA and ASoUE mesh very nicely. For example, both include stories about people who fought fires and spiraling madness and crawling things, until eventually all that was left of them was a story to be told by a man who knew far too much about things that he had never been there to see, and the faintest terror of realtors.
This is about how Aunt Josephine met the Distortion. It is also about other things.

Summary
[Kept up for posterity/archiving purposes, but oh boy my writing was not the greatest back then.]
In which Gravity Falls is sentient (and sapient) and saves Dipper's life when Bill tries to possess him during the start of the Transcendence. Rather than becoming a demon, Dipper becomes a living bridge between the mindscape and the waking world, and their respective somewhat-benevolent forests. The results are, initially, a highly spatially aware mostly-human twelve-year-old with a very green thumb and an impressive repertoire of magic tricks. Then things get steadily worse. Some unknown force has resulted in the disappearance of the Radiance, just before the infection could reach its peak under the Pale King's rule. The mystery soon takes a back-burner to a rearranged custody agreement over Herrah's brood, some clumsy attempts to re-establish marital trust, and some long overdue re-evaluations of the Pure Vessel. The king will send his newly unusable creation to train under the Great Knights, and become their sixth.
Court intrigue, sibling bonding, goddess hunting, different brands of motherhood, and accidental arson are abound.

Summary
It's been almost thirty years since Shifty crawled out of the lab like a zombie rising from the grave, since Stanford Pines fell beyond their reach. Thirty years of almost nightly work on a portal that refused to obey their and Stan's commands, no matter what they did. Thirty years since the start of the Mystery Shack and Shifty's alter ego, the unlikeable co-manager of said Shack. Hope is starting to wear thin, and frustration is running high.
But when a pair of twins begin to stumble upon the mysteries of the town, there might be something left to find after, be they solutions or secrets. Secrets that might as easily destroy Shifty as they could save them.
