She likes to look over at Luz like she does now - her gaze landing on Luz’s sleeping form - to remind herself of how far she’s come.

    But it’s ridiculously hard to undo years of uncompromised parenting, her hands intrinsically intertwined in the tangle of it all. It catches up to her inevitably, manifesting into her need for perfection, into the aching urge to prove her worthiness - even when surrounded by safety and love.

    Some days, simply existing in her own skin felt impossible.
