Summary
“Maddie..can I ask you something?” He asked, looking at her with squinted eyes.
“Yeah, of course.”
“Why..” He gulped slightly, like he was scared to ask.
“Why what, Ev?”
“Why do Mom and Dad not love me?”
Maddie took a sharp intake of air, snapping her head to him with wide eyes. He seemed completely serious, eyes fixated on the mulch his feet dragged in.
“What? Of course they love you Evan!”
“No, they don’t!” He yelled back, looking up at her. “Not the same way they love you.”
She felt her heart ache, trying to stay composed and not say something that he could easily get wrong.
“Evan listen..Mom and Dad they hurt a lot..and they don’t know what to do. They love you so much though.”
