He wondered if he could still hold his breath for longer than a minute.
“Well, too bad you really don’t have a choice unless you want to die.” The guy chuckled as his fingers reach up and twirled the toothpick in his mouth. “We just want to have a little fun.”

After Wen Ning regains consciousness, Wen Qing explains to him some of the ways the Wen refugees have worked towards their survival. Wen Ning already knows about the worst things that they survived, and those all came before the Burial Mounds.
I wrote this one-shot in a haze of ‘and then they must have—’ and decided to post it from a place of rage, even though it took quite some time to edit. All it took to be certain was a glance at the news, recognition of the absolute banality of another political crackdown by a world power, and the realization that any and every day’s news will only add to my mental list of real-world, right-now instances of political repression, mass imprisonment, and mass murder.

He knows he hadn't, but life's unpredictable sometimes.Or: Hoseok runs a scrappy motorhome that he sets up as a coffee shop.
