Summary
Homecoming AU.
Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.
So he leaves.
Simple.
Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on.
And that’s when things get complicated.

Summary
Previously posted under username signofthree. This post-IW fic was written pre-IW, so it is pure speculation based on the trailers. And now, I suppose, a slight AU.
It’s been months since the Avengers defeated Thanos, and Peter’s doing fine. Really. Okay, so he has like, ten times as many villains to fight lately (and what is up with their costumes?). And sure, Tony has barely spoken to him since they got back. And, yeah, the whole coming back from the dead thing is a mind trip. But he’s dealing with it. All things considered, he’s doing a pretty good job of it too.
With everything else that’s going on, a bruise seems like such a little thing that Peter doesn’t pay it any attention, even when it doesn’t fade nearly as fast as it should. It’s just a bruise. It’s no big deal.
Enter an alien virus, throw in some Dr. Strange, inter-dimensional note passing, and a very, very angry Tony Stark, and suddenly it’s not such a little deal anymore.
It’s always the little things, isn’t it?

EVERYTHING I LOVE, pushes all my buttons, omg, poor Peter. There's an alien virus in his blood, and he's dog sick and weak and scared and trying so hard to hide it. There's angst, and terror, and the razor's edge of death. POV switches to Tony near the end, when Peter is pretty much dying. Aunt May is fantastic. So is Bruce. And Dr. Strange. And Ned and MJ. And the Guardians of the Galaxy. It was best Peter whump and h/c.

Bookmarker's Notes
Oh, fuck, this dragged me over a grater, I'm so raw. Peter is so brave, and lost and frightened, and the world just. won't. stop. raining shit on him. It's heartbreaking and infuriating, and watching him try to make things right by helping other people like him - the people who aren't getting any help, who have fallen through the cracks - is so sweet and painful.
Ugh. I have a raging headache, I've cried so much. I need to hug that kid.
Wonderful, positive, happy ending: you get all the comfort you should. What a ride.
