And like any assassin would, they had secrets to keep. One of those secrets Mick had was moreso an omission of truth. Just as the times were, women weren’t exactly seen as reliable killer material, even if they came from a Aulstralium ridden continent that would mutate both sexes into an equally obnoxious mountain of muscle-though, Mick was probably the one exception.

Heavy walked further into the med lab slowly, both not to trip on anything and not to startle Scout. The glint of low light off Scout’s damp eyes followed his every move as he sank into the chair next to the bed. Scout kept sniffing, averting his gaze to his own hands on his lap as he was visibly trying not to cry.
After a minute of silence, Heavy sighed, raking his hand over his face. His beard was starting to come in as he’d been hard pressed to find the time to shave, his face growing scruffier. For the first time in years it’d grown long enough for him to see the streaks of gray that had developed in its absence. Age, maybe… but the kind of stress that came with the job took its toll. It did on everyone there, visible or not.
“What happened?” he asked softly, and Scout turned his head away, taking a deep breath. Hesitating.
“I think I fucked up, Heavy,” he whispered.

They wanted Scout to get mad that they forgot. They wanted him to yell or cry or throw things. He’d done so much to help Pyro with the other mercs’ birthdays so far, he should expect the same. But he didn’t.
Even the night before his birthday, he hadn’t brought it up once. There was just a quiet acceptance on his face- that tomorrow meant nothing. Not to him, not to anybody. He wasn’t angry. Wasn’t even sad.

Obviously they knew about his current life, they sent a stupid package with just a letter in it. Who even does that? Someone willing to hurt kids, apparently. In a completely different state, too. Scout and his family lived in Boston. This letter wanted him in New York. It expected his and his kids' lives to pause just to… what, kill a guy? Scout could hardly make sense of it. Before he could really think, he found himself standing by the landline with the phone to his ear."
Jeremy's enjoying life as a father until some guys threaten his kids. Now, he has to go to New York for a job he doesn't wanna do. Luckily, he's not the only one who doesn't want him out and killing people.
