[Verse 1]
I get in my head so easily, I don't understand, I'm my worst enemy, You assure me you love me and seal it with a kiss, I can't be convinced
[Chorus]
It's just a matter of time 'til you see the dagger, It's a special of mine to cause disaster, So prepare for the impact, and brace your heart, For cold, bloody, bitter sabotage.

Running. He loved running. He lived for running. He needed running.
But of course, something had to happen. Something had to take that away. Something had to make things worse.

Summary
The more they didn’t get anger, the more they wanted it.
They wanted Scout to get mad that they forgot. They wanted him to yell or cry or throw things. He’d done so much to help Pyro with the other mercs’ birthdays so far, he should expect the same. But he didn’t.
Even the night before his birthday, he hadn’t brought it up once. There was just a quiet acceptance on his face- that tomorrow meant nothing. Not to him, not to anybody. He wasn’t angry. Wasn’t even sad.
It went unspoken that he was very, very used to this.

Summary
Sometimes he’d see himself on the battlefield.
Same blue shirt, black hat, rattling dog tags. Same hollow look in his eyes, scar on the bridge of his nose. They’d both slow to a stop, frozen on opposite ends of a drafty warehouse.
The Spy would stare, and Scout would stare back.
He didn’t want to be mad anymore.
One way or another, he was going to look like his father.

Summary
“I am nothing like you, moron,” Scout seethed, jabbing Spy in the chest with a bandaged finger. “You don’t ever get to say that, you hear me?”
Spy scoffed, shoving him away. “No, you aren’t. The stealthiest, smartest, most powerful mercenary on this team versus the most obnoxious, useless, noisy, loudmouthed brat in the country? I think not.”
Several mercs grumbled their disagreement at the ‘smartest’ and ‘most powerful’ bits, but if Scout or Spy had even noticed them walk in at all, they didn’t show it. Scout’s fists balled at his sides as he glared daggers at his father. “You want quiet, old man?”
“Please. If I never hear another word out of you, it would be too soon.”
Scout only gritted his teeth before the match began.
And God knows he followed through.

Summary
The US Government had declared war on Russia, and almost immediately sent out a draft calling for every able-bodied man between 18 and 45. Considering that description fit every merc on either side, five minutes of panic ensued before someone read their sister letter that got delivered with the draft. A letter from Redmond or Blutarch respectively- explaining that each man paid a wealthy sum to the government to keep their “employees” under their control. They’d effectively dodged the draft the second it was sent, and they were free to carry on like usual.
The problem?
BLU team’s Scout had gotten fired the week before.

Summary
It was peaceful, really; the heat of the sun nipped at their skin, the colors of the evening washing over their forms, and Rick was smoking another cig, the smog that left his mouth the only cloud in sight. Scout hated cigarettes, hated the way they made an impossibly dry mouth drier, coated his throat in dust just as his feet kicked it up, lungs he needed to keep his job dying from their smoke, but he couldn’t bring himself to care in that moment. If Rick offered him another one, he’d take it, because a person like him was never hard to persuade into a smoke or two— but that didn’t mean he liked them. He wasn’t like Spy, Sniper, or Engineer; he didn’t have the indulgences they did. He didn’t rot his teeth or his lungs or his throat, no. There was a rot in his blood, buried deep within the skin on his arms and legs, gnawing at his brain; a slow, sluggish decay of the bone. An addiction, Medic might tell him if he bothered to ask. But he wasn’t an addict. He could stop any time he wanted. He just didn’t want to.
