“What I always want”, he said softly. “To save the Grisha. To protect Ravka. You.”_
At the end of Siege and Storm, Alina Starkov is captured at the Little Palace after she tries to kill the Darkling. She is alone among enemies, while her allies are scattered and her powers weakened by her battle with the Darkling. With her body and spirit beaten down, she finds comfort in the budding friendship with her jailer Natasha. With the newfound feelings she has to face an uncomfortable truth: there are good people fighting for the Darkling. How can she destroy him without destroying them?
This is my attempt to fix everything I disliked about Ruin and Rising, and also to give Alina some much needed female friendships (and sapphic feels).

Aleksander was sure that with a pet sun summoner at his side, equipped with all 3 of Morozova's amplifiers, he'd be able to safely enter the fold and carry out his long awaited plans.
But, while the Volcra shied away at first, it wasn't long before one of them got close enough to realise the light wasn't actually harmful to them and attacked.
It's a humiliating retreat which several diplomats, his top Grisha and everyone in both Kribirsk and Novokribirsk witnessed first hand. They all quickly put 2 and 2 together and realise that if an untrained sun summoner riddled with wasting sickness was able to instinctively destroy a hoard of Volcra while injured, then she is either infinitely more powerful or their Fjerdan saint isn't what she says she is.
Now, with his reputation in ruins, Aleksander's only hope of making up for his mistake is to get Alina back on his side- this time without Morozova's amplifiers as a backup

The Darkling has been captured by Jarl Brum and his vicious Druskelle. Ivan comes to the Little Palace, currently run by General Alina Starkov, and begs for her and Tsar Nikolai to rescue him. Alina readily agrees, refusing to leave Grisha behind, or so she tells herself. Nikolai wants the Darkling so he can hang him himself.
Facing harsh conditions and battling the Fjerdans at every step, will Alina rescue the Darkling just for him to be put to death? People's alliances are challenged as what's good for Ravka may not be good for Grisha.This is an AU but mostly complies with book lore rather than TV

This alternate story begins after Shadow and Bone Season 1 Episode 5. As with many of you, I was heartbroken to see the end of Darklina. Aleksander created the Fold to save Grishas and his mother. He created it accidentally when he was backed into a corner. After centuries of power, revenge, and being told the creator of the Fold was “The Black Heretic”, he became “the villain”. He could have found peace again with Alina. If Darklina was endgame, it would have made such a better story. This alternate ending is the story I hope for in the Grishaverse.
