    Summary

The Uchiha clan has to make peace with Konoha after years of enmity. To ensure the truce, they hand over one of their own.

For a perfect shinobi and eternal outsider, dealing with someone like Naruto is difficult enough. Simply existing in Konoha is a trip down the rabbit hole, where nothing makes sense. Struggling to understand Naruto and the bizarre people Naruto surrounds himself with might help Sasuke learn more about who he is, and who he could be as a person rather than 'just' an Uchiha. But someone doesn't want him in Konoha and his concerns for his clan, concerning Itachi in particular, are never very far away.

    Sacrifice by Arigatomina

MAJOR DIVERGENCE — The Uchiha walked out of Konoha after the Kyuubi Attack - which Naruto’s father, the Yondaime, survived in this universe. So, SasuNaru grew up apart and in ways completely different from canon (massacre never happened so Sasuke was never alone, instead he had to live most of his life being used by his family as a tool. Naruto, on the other hand, was never outright a pariah because his father was alive. Without Sasuke there though, his drive to improve was limited).

The premise of the story is that SasuNaru met when they were 12 on a mission. It was ‘love’ (or better yet, obsession) at first sight. Naruto couldn’t forget about the boy with the Sharingan, and he spends his life looking for him. Until, he finally learns that the boy was Uchiha. Just in time for Sasuke to be taken in as a sacrifice by Konoha, giving Naruto the opportunity to offer him a semblance of freedom in exchange for being his lover. (Not as dark as it sounds, SasuNaru-centric, Domestic feels with background political intrigue and conflicts).

THOUGHTS — An all time favorite! OOF. The author’s prose flows well and is engaging. And the character’s voices sound natural. So yeah, nothing but good to say in that regard. I really enjoyed this fic, the unique premise had me hooked from the start, and the characterizations of SasuNaru, while not necessarily in-character (based on their canon portrayals), is close enough to the real thing and genuine to their changed circumstances in this universe that it is very very interesting. Like OOF. I love it. Idk how else to say it.

Plot wise?? Hm I think it’s early in the story yet. There’s trouble raging in the background but the story hadn’t gotten to that point before the hiatus, so I can’t be sure. All I know is that the author’s worldbuilding is very well done! They devoted a lot of thought in their chosen divergences, and it actually reflected in the story (there are some authors that change big things and then keep everything the same, this is not like that. The author makes big changes, and is good enough to back them up without faltering.)

Recommended for the SasuNaru. It’s not quite a romance yet. But it’s approaching that. It’s definitely a slow burn 😂. But in the best of ways. The SasuNaru dynamics are very interesting, and have lots of potential.

Would definitely read again! Whether or not it updates. Although I’d really love it if it did. 😭 (It ends in a good enough place for a hopeful open ending, but yeah, not much is resolved yet.)

1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — Reread and Read the updated chapters! Same thoughts as before! Really enjoyed new chapters! It’s almost like there was never any pause tbh. The story is as well done as it has been before a definitely still worth the read.
