The story goes that, the first time you meet your ‘soulmate’, the universe will give you a sign in what should be the most obvious way - somewhere in your immediate vicinity the word ‘soulmate’ will appear. If reports of ‘soulmates’ are to be believed, rather than being written of as hopeful delusions, then this ‘obvious’ signal is anything but, fleeting as it is. The word seemingly only appears for a matter of moments and only when two people first meet. There is no guarantee that they will be looking in the correct direction to see it, nor that they will have any idea who their supposed ‘soulmate’ actually is.

I've been meaning to move a couple of old stories over here from LiveJournal, and today is the day!
From a now-deleted prompt on Norsekink. (Essentially, a fix-it fic for the forced breeding fills that were really popular at one point-- I made the mistake of reading one of them and couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. Someone else had the same experience and made this prompt, which I was glad to fill to clear my head. The title source can be found here.)
Once again, this story features a very unfriendly view of Thor. Sorry, Thor. I don't really think you're a monster, I just got really carried away with the prompt. And to be honest, I was kind of pleased with how the story turned out.
On the other hand it's also one of the very few Loki/Pepper fics I have ever seen, if you're into that sort of thing. And it may be the only story I've ever seen which features Loki doing stop-motion animation with plasticine!

It's so interesting to see Wei Wuxian through his eyes, 'incandescently frustrating' and fascinating at the same time. Events manage to follow canon (up until just before Qiongqi Path), so there are heartbreaking parts as well.

"Wangji, do you understand what we have been saying? That you are now betrothed to this Wei Wuxian?"
Lan Wangji nods. "When we are older, we will be married."
"And do you understand what that means?"
He nods again. Mother and Father were married. Married people are given their own house each, full of books, and they are allowed to live there in perfect quiet and nobody may bother them at all. It sounds wonderful.
Because it is proper to show gratitude for kindness, Lan Wangji bows and says, "Thank you, shufu. I should like to be married."

And then the Jiang sect arrives for the lectures.
At first, Lan Wangji makes no connection between the marital principles and the personified annoyance that is Wei Wuxian. He’s too busy being incandescent with indignation that his betrothed would show so little respect: first he is careless enough to lose his sect's invitation, then rude enough to argue with the rules! Not only that, to actively flout them by bringing alcohol into the place!
Then Lan Wangji finds himself looking at Wei Wuxian down the length of two swords, fought to a standstill in a matter of minutes, and he is so busy being surprised by it that he has nothing with which to defend himself against the sight of Wei Wuxian's face, lit up by laughter and delight.
Oh, thinks Lan Wangji, as his skin tightens helplessly around him like a rope around the wrist.

Ohmygoodness, there's a sequel, it starts on the final day of the story prior, and this time it's jiggy's POV, and he's such a calculating murder kitten, it's hilarious. And also very hot. Because it's very obvious that wwx is getting fucked through the mattress every night, and yet, lxc is much too polite and respectful to degrade his lover thusly (much to jgy's INTENSE frustration).
***This bit cracked me up, when they're first getting together:
"I think you could probably produce anything you set your mind to, heirs included." Lan Xichen's smile widens. "Wei Wuxian has already gifted my brother with one, if I am any judge."
The tiny Wen Yuan has spent the last few days dressed in Lan colours and clinging delightedly to the leg of Lan Wangji, who in turn looks at the child with the same kind of mad-eyed possessive affection that he directs at Wei Wuxian. Lan Qiren has probably already resigned himself to building a nursery.
Does Lan Xichen want a scruffy orphan of his own? Does he want five? The war was long and difficult; there must be hundreds of the things running around out there, like stray chickens.
