It’s been six months since Jack died, six months since Dean and Cas last spoke. While Cas misses Dean, there’s also a lot of bottled up hurt and anger. Keeping his distance is the only thing that makes sense, especially if Dean is determined to ignore that Cas exists. But a misunderstanding between Sam and Cas brings Cas back to the Bunker at the worst moment possible.

“Story's over,” Chuck says, “Welcome to The End.”
And with that everything goes dark and cold. The darkness and rot of souls and bodies surrounds them. He doesn’t dare touch Jack again, just stares at his lifeless body lit only by unnatural moonlight. He’s vaguely aware of the threat slowly encircling them, but none of it matters. Nothing matters anymore. Somewhere, something deep inside of him-not his earthly body but his true angel self-awakens. It’s a type of power and heat he hasn’t felt in years. It’s uncontrollable and unforgiving. Light and righteousness and fury coalescing into something terrifying. Castiel lets out a scream, an anguished cry from his human mouth and a piercing angelic shriek, and with it releases whatever it was that had been growing within him. When he feels it leave, his consciousness finally returns to the present, to the Earth and to his vessel and to Sam and Dean and to Jack and it’s light out again. The sun is shining just as it was minutes ago, and there is no sign of any dark forces around them. No ghosts, no zombies, no demons, just two men, an angel, and the body of a dead Nephilim.

Dean is touching his hand, caressing the back with his thumb without saying anything. His head is against his shoulder and from his position, he can see how Dean has his eyes closed. They are sitting on the floor, their back against the impala. Dean's breathing is slow, really slow. Anyone could think that he is sleeping but his thumb is still caressing his hand. He is exhausted, both of them are.
Three months since God himself decided to put the plug off.

Not willing to waste any time, Castiel comes up with a plan to travel to one of the other worlds to try and get help from the angels there, but after a fight with Dean, it's the hunter who gets sent into an alternate universe,with seemingly no hope of return.
When a mysterious human with a heavenly weapon shows up in Aziraphale's shop, he and Crowley learn that their world is not the only one. Now it is up to them to decide whether or not they want to join forces with the human and help him save his world or simply find a way to send him home.

He feels betrayed by Dean and he misses Jack so much that he can't stay with them any longer but during their fights against the evil that Chuck released they solowly find back together. New allies and old long lost friends help them save the world one more time.

After Mary dies and Chuck reveals his true colors everything falls apart. Dean, Sam and Cas are more apart than ever but have to stick together to get through the aftermath - grief, anger, depression, fading powers and a goddamn apocalypse - together. Working through all of their their issues proves to be complicated though, especially when there are Dean's feelings for Cas in the mix.
