Buck was sitting up and leaning against the headboard, feet outstretched and crossed, phone in his hands. If you asked Eddie, he looked perfect. Eddie was lying on his stomach, facing him, feet hanging off the edge of the bed. He was reading an email from Christopher’s school and placed his phone down with a heavy sigh. Buck made this noise like a wounded animal, he made it all the time. Quiet but caring. A simple question of “Are you okay? What’s happened? You can tell me if you want to but I won’t pressure you.”

Settling in to the chair in the office, his office, the one he still doesn’t feel like he should be sitting in, he stares down the mountain of paperwork. The worst part of the job, he decided very quickly, was the paperwork. He’s been doing okay as captain, he thinks. The dynamic of the team feels a little different now and he misses Bobby like hell every single day. But, his family are here and they’re still together. Working together, and pulling each other through the muddle.
