Summary
Cycles don't stay uniform. They change. The orbit of a planet around the sun grows slowly longer and longer as the years pass, and so too does the Cycle of Demise. The Cycle is broken- not in that it has ended, but in that the key players do not always appear at the correct time. 10,000 years ago the last cycle took place, and the Hero appeared at the very last minute. This time Hyrule isn't on the path to be quite so lucky.
(Un)Fortunately, the Hero's Shade is the best back-up plan past heroes possess.
