Summary
Nagato's Rinne Tensei brings back a few more people than just the village of Konoha. Having returned to life, Itachi assumes Madara is up to all kinds of bad shenanigans and takes it upon himself to collect the rest of the recently resurrected Akatsuki in order to bring him down. It's his final mission, after all: Protect Konohagakure from any threat the Uchiha clan thinks to throw at it, and eliminate his entire clan once and for all.
En route to this goal, Itachi is forced to come to terms with what he's done in order to move on, save Sasuke from destroying what's left of his chance at a normal life, and stop Madara once and for all. Meanwhile, Konan takes a stab at diplomatic relations in more ways than one; Yahiko deals with what's become of his organization since he left; and the rest of the Akatsuki sardonically face their demons and their mortality while slowly coming around to the realization that maybe rampant murder has some detriments after all. Namely, what if one of their members dies? What if they find (uncomfortably, in the manner of those who've been certain for years that they've tossed out all emotion and suddenly discover they haven't) that they don't want to let each other die all over again?
