AU. The girl appears on the night of a full moon.
Such things have happened before; when the moon is brightest in the sky, the border between the realms of the living and the dead collapses, and more than one human has crossed between them and stumbled upon the king in the house of the moon, deep in the mountain caverns. Those who are lost, he feeds and grants shelter, before sending them on their way. Those who seek him with darkness in their hearts…well. Their bones are given to the house, and their blood to the souls.
His house is a waystation for the dead to rest before their journey to the world beyond, and he guards their peace vigilantly. When his guests are ready to move on, they follow the long passageway behind the house, deeper into the mountain, down to a perfect cenote: the true entrance to Talokan.
That is where he finds her, kneeling at the lip of the water.
