“Your name, so I can ‘inquire’.” An impish grin, “you know, like you said.”
“Rumi Kang,” Rumi nearly goes to tip her hat in pure reflex, and then hides a grimace. Stupid move when someone’s got an itchy trigger finger. “A… pleasure to meet you, ma’am.”
No sign of recognition, only a pleased tilt of the woman’s head. “Oh, that’s a pretty name! I’m Zoey Jones, if you were wondering. You’re very polite, you know, even with a gun pointed at you. That’s pretty admirable. Does that mean it happens to you a lot?”
Rumi blinks, looking from Ms. Jones’ genuinely welcoming smile to the shotgun still aimed at her. “Not quite like this, I admit.”

“I-uh. Um. Thank you, erm, Zoey. You-uh, aren’t too bad yourself.” Her voice rises at the end, phrasing it as a question. Jinu snorts.
Zoey tilts her head and sends Rumi a flirty smile. “High praise.”

Here's a little glimpse into the chaotic, traumatized mind of poor Zoey. Honestly this drabble was an excerpt from my upcoming chapter for my other story "We're Shattering the Silence," but I don't feel like it fits anymore and I still wanted to share. This is a deep dive into Zoey's past trauma and how she (tries to) handle it in the present. There's some heavy stuff here - implied child neglect, references to Zoey being bullied, implied/referenced alcohol abuse (Zoey's Dad), Zoey has a panic attack, implied eating disorders, etc. Sorry in advance! <3 Poor Mira and Rumi (and Bobby) try their best, but Zoey needs so many more hugs and therapy.
