“Then it is not necessary that I should cut out any portion—saying, this part is not mine: it was plaited under the idea and for the adornment of another?”
“By no means. It is neither necessary, nor would it be just.”

“How strange, that I should not have noticed it before! But of course, it is your drab clothes that are to blame, for we live so cheek-by-jowl here that it could not otherwise have escaped me that you are indeed a beauty.”

A take on Villette’s open ending; yes, the ending in which, Charlotte Brontë, so subtly scorned the day-dreamers who believed in the power of love and happy endings – in which Lucy has the opportunity to enjoy the company of the man she preferred to all humankind, M. Paul Emanuel. -

Summary
I have recently read Villette and I am obsessed, obviously.
But I could not find a good motive for Paul, who is irredeemable. Luckily I have a friend who is on the most galaxy brain shit ever and who gave me the trick of imagining any man as a butch lesbian, a trick which eventually took over my brain, so I had to write this. This is a beginning of a reimagining of Villette, except, you know - they're lesbians.
