Summary
When middle-earth froze over in a mysterious climatic event, Bilbo Baggins had to leave the Shire to avoid freezing to death.
On his travels he finds the heavily injured Thorin Oakenshield and brings him along on his journey to a city that is whispered to possess the ability to keep everyone in it warm.
After finding the city, it is different than talked about and Thorin is near death.
Will Bilbo be able to nurse the dwarf back to health and will both of them survive the Great Ice? -

So she walks over there one evening around supper time. What she doesn't know, and neither does he, is that it's the same day thirteen dwarves and a wizard will pile in through his door and attempt to sweep him off on an adventure he's uninterested in. She is though. A chance to become rich, for her family to no longer have to rent their land? It's too good to miss. What she doesn't realize is just how different dwarves live their lives, just how many different ways they're allowed to exist. What will she learn about the world around her? What will she learn about herself with this new lens? Only one way to find out, and that's to step out of Mister Baggins' door, step out of The Shire, and head to The Lonely Mountain.

After the Quest of Erebor, Bilbo Baggins returned to the Shire desolate, with but a little chest of riches as his prize. For years afterwards, he regretted having done so, wishing instead that he had stayed by the side of the one he loved. Yet, he knew his place. As Gandalf had said, he was quite a little fellow in the wide world. A little hobbit like him had no business being a consort to a dwarven king - it was not done.
That was why, when he and the King of Erebor met again, Bilbo didn't think once that the impossible his heart still longed for could ever come true.

Gandalf met her eyes with as forlorn an expression as she'd ever seen on his face. There was such sadness held there at the answer she knew he had to give.
"It would be a promise I cannot keep." He told her as kindly as he possibly could. "I'd rather not keep a father and his child from each other- a King and his heir even less so."
Billa looked away but didn't flinch when a warm, rough hand touched her shoulder offering comfort. She desperately needed it. She was so frightened.
"Did you love him?" She heard him ask. She clung to the sympathy in his voice and nodded as her eyes brimmed with tears.
"Do you still?"
The answer was barely a whisper- as small and secret as the fluttering heartbeat under her shaking hand.
"Yes."

Summary
The Shire faced another Fell Winter, and somehow this one was so much worse. But worst of all, it was followed by a Diseased Summer. The crops are dead and dying, and Bilbo knows there will be no food for another Winter. So he finds the solution, the hobbits must move to Erebor. It takes a long time in the middle of summer, but they manage, and not without loss. Bilbo revists the many locations of his adventure, and with them comes many waves of grief and regret, until he's finally at Erebor and the crux of his emotions and losses. Now he has to face the empty spot Thorin has left behind and learn to live another new life here under the mountain.
