Summary
Occtis Tachonis, an introverted veterinarian, is dragged along to an excavation in the arctic by his good friend and archaeologist Thaisha Lloy. The only problem is that he's not quite sure why he's there... This au is essentially a non-horror version of The Thing (all the dogs live) but with less aliens and more romance.
“Go on ahead I’ll…” Occtis paused as he realized the group had already run ahead out of ear shot, “...catch up.”
Occtis approached the crevice carefully, each step planned in order to avoid another slip. He peered over the ledge, getting a glimpse of the steep, sharp fall that awaited him if he continued forwards.
“Oh, no thank you,” he took two steps back before glancing to his right, looking for Thaisha. He found her rambling excitedly to her colleagues about an ancient topmast that was sticking out of the ice just a few yards from where he stood. -

Summary
“Normally—in the past,” Hal says, his voice dropping an octave. “I have found someone to take to bed in an effort to distract myself during times of heightened emotions. If I’m honest, one of my children exists solely due to similar circumstances.”
Vaelus’ usual confidence returns, and she smirks at him. “And I take it your ex-lover is not available? Thaisha is her name, yes?”
“That is no longer the nature of our relationship,” Hal says, shaking his head as he continues more seriously. “And finding someone to bed is not why I came to speak with you, Vaelus, you have my word. I would not—”
“You would not bed me?” she asks, tilting her head to the side as she prepares to assess him. “Why not?”
