Tim stared up at his older self as if he had grown two heads. “What? No, he wouldn’t! He’s Batman and even if he’s a little crazy now, Batman doesn’t hurt kids!”
His older self looked at him sadly. “That’s a lie Tim,” he said quietly. “I’ve got the scars to prove it. He will hurt you and he will allow others to hurt you as well.”
OR, the night before little Tim Drake goes to Batman to convince him to take him on as Robin, he gets a visit from an older version of himself who tries to convince him to go a different route in life, one that just might make him happier than being Robin ever would.

He thinks he has the chance to make things right.
The bright blue trainers he puts on are a pair he hasn’t worn in forever, something he never thought about after he grew out of them (will grow out of?) a year from now, and sets off into the night and into the rain.
The plan he has in his brain is not really a plan, moreso just a couple of half thrown ideas and maybe five steps into building back the life he had in the most painless way he could.
Maybe, he thinks, maybe this plan can start off with the family he misses– because he’s sixty and most of them too injured or too old or too dead–
Call him selfish but he misses them. He would rather find them than get himself back into that lonely existence he called a life before he woke up at nine.
Dick makes do because that’s all he can do really.

Now that he’s alone, teamless, no longer a Wayne, or Robin… what’s left for Tim?Jason looks murderous. “God DAMN it, Tim, this was not the situation I had in mind when I generously taught you how to be a younger brother out of the kindness of my heart!”
Even more shocked by this, Dick asks incredulously, “You, Jason Todd-Wayne, tried to give younger brother lessons? Where did you even get the audacity?”
Jason rounds on him hotly. “Bitch, you wish you knew how to be a younger brother!”
“FOCUS,” Tim demands. “We’ve got like, an hour to pull this off.”

3//Bruce is, above all else, a detective. There are clues here that point in directions he does not like. However, he is experienced enough to know that it would be folly to theorize before he has all the data. As was famously said, in such cases one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. However, the data he has collected so far in the several hours he has been back in the present continues to be infuriatingly sparse.
Bruce has managed some unusually short conversations with an extremely shifty Clark, which all seemed to consist of a suspiciously bare bones version of recent events and an unsatisfactory amount of “I don’t know, Bruce.” This from a man who he’s known for decades. A man who may as well be a brother. A man who is second from the top of his profession as a reporter, a vocation built on the very concept of being a nosy blabbermouthed busybody.
Martian Manhunter, on the other hand, had a lot to say, but not many concrete facts to put in the puzzle of what the hell has happened while Bruce was away. J’onn appears not to have been present for several moments that seem to have played key roles in the fact pattern, and is irritatingly bound to a code of ethics regarding his ability to peer into the heads of those around him, often without even trying. However, what J’onn did take great pains to make crystal clear to Bruce, after informing him of the tragic fates of Kon and Bart that must have fallen like crushing blows for Tim after losing Steph and then Bruce himself, is that Tim is very much Not Okay.

Damian shrieks, “Drake was not here for you! I have been here, and have seen how upset he made you when he left and refused to return, and I have taken on his duty to you! We don’t need him! He is not necessary to this family’s happiness!”There is a ringing quality to the silence left as his yelling echoes and quiets.
Tim rises from his chair, which scrapes loudly against the floor, something truly awful and ugly replacing the blankness in his face. “You know what, Damian,” he says, in a tone that suggests he means asshole, “That’s fair. I did brute force my way, unwanted by absolutely everyone involved, into being Robin. I forced my way into the costume in order to protect Gotham, which needs a Batman in order to survive, because Bruce was so lost in grief over Jason he was going to kill himself and take Gotham down with him, because without the light of a Robin the darkness was going to swallow him whole. Dick always has been the light, for all of us, and I tried to get him to come back and be Robin again.”
Dick is ashen, white knuckling the arms of his seat like he’s been put in an electric chair and made to answer for his crimes.
Tim continues, relentless and pointed. “- but he was too lost in his own anger and grief to believe me when I told him Batman needed to be saved.”
Tim’s voice becomes monotone, robotic. “There wasn’t anyone else to do the job. There was only me. So I did what I had to do. And the thanks I got for doing my best to honor a legacy of hope and protection was being shot, beaten with my own weapon, my throat cut and left for dead by the second Robin to wear the colors; and having my role ripped from me by the first and given to the next Wayne who tried to murder me in what was, for a short time, my own home.”
Jason looks shaken to the core. Even Damian is wordless. Bruce feels like Tim’s carefully measured words are turning him upside down and shaking him into a slack-jawed stupor, pummeling him until his heart and brain rattle free, emptying out and splattering all over the ground.
