Life has never been safe for a Borrower in a world governed by humans. As is the fate of a pair of escaped siblings, surviving in the woods by the skin of their teeth. But when evading their opponent proves too challenging, it may take deciding between trusting the owner of a nearby cabin or trying to outrun an enemy that can’t be killed.
But the tenants of that safe haven have one damning condition: they must reveal themselves to him first to be granted shelter. In order to make peace with the present, it may take unraveling the horrors of the past and the entwined destines between them all to save who still remains of all Borrowers, Cryptids, and Fae - and perhaps even the very forest itself.

Shen Qingqiu and Tomioka Giyuu have been dropped into the Slay the Princess universe. At first, they're confused and target the protagonist of the universe, assuming that he was attacking a woman already locked away in the basement, but as time goes on and loops repeat, they realize that the princess is not what she seems
The Long Quiet and the voices in his head are confused on why slaying the princess is more complicated than the narrator lets on.
(10.02.25: Currently on hiatus until I figure out how to balance 3 AP classes AND this fanwork while one class isn’t even teaching. Should be back, though 👍👍)

Summary
The Wild and the Apotheosis are two of the strongest vessels, they can break the construct. When the Shifting Mound is a bit late on retrieving her gift of a Tender Heart, the Nightmare grows to receive this strength, too.
But all she knows is how to hurt…
And so she does. She breaks the Long Quiet. Not mentally, or spiritually, or even just his will. She breaks him in a terrible, pragmatic way.
Like the Sleeping Mound, they can hope to rebuild him from the Paranoid voice that survives. Together, the Paranoid and the Nightmare must bring Voices to the Long Quiet, and Vessels to the Shifting Mound.
Hilarity ensues.

"Stand up and fight." As if some sort of miracle, another blade seems to have manifested in his hand, and his tone is filled with determination. "I know that's not all you can do!"
And for a brief moment, you stare at this little bird like he's grown a second head. For a brief moment your hands (such wretched things, you think, your voice was the only proper way, to fight like this is unsuitable for someone like you) reach out toward the bladed invitation he's offered you, still in wretched pain--

The world around seemed to fall apart completely. Breaking every atom down to the smallest atom. It felt like it would go on forever until it seemed to reverse.
Rough sketches began to be cleaned up, and the space felt lived-in instead of empty; it felt like the air was breathable and familiar.

The Princess knows her hero with a terrible intimacy. She knows the cracks running through his being, knows his broken pieces that have been left behind. She knows the shape of them, the sound of them, the bitterness and hurt and longing of them. She can feel them, aching like a phantom limb, tucked away in the folds of the crumbling Construct.
Her many hearts twist with agonizing empathy as she reaches out, fingers brushing lightly over the jagged edges of her hero’s fragments. It stings, but she doesn’t recoil. They’ve done much worse to her, and she to them.
Let me guide you home. An offering. One of peace, of reconciliation and healing. You are missed, you are wanted. The world is waiting for us, and we will not leave without you.
