Buck’s first shift back at the 118 after the lawsuit was nothing like he’d imagined and Buck wasn't sure how he'd bridge the sudden distance between him and his team. But the disappointment of their brush-off was eclipsed when he came home from that first shift to find an old flame waiting on his doorstep with a choice that was really no choice at all. Buck had no idea how to be a dad, especially without the help of the people he'd come to think of as his family, but he was determined to figure it out; and maybe figure out some things about himself along the way.

Summary
In the wake of another bust during his apartment hunt, Buck winds up at the place he feels safest - with Tommy. A shared night ends in a shared morning, setting Buck on a path of realization and growth. He has to examine where his place is and whether he can continue existing in the exceedingly suffocating environment of the firehouse that was once his home.
Choices must be made, and perhaps, it is for the best if Buck does like everyone says and is actually selfish.

Please ensure you remain in your seats, return your trays to the upright positions and fasten your seatbelts. Thank you.”As soon as the sound of the tones rang through the tinny airplane speakers, signaling the end of the announcement, Tommy closed his book and glanced at the two people sat beside him, letting out a small chuckle before placing his hand around the seat in front of him and lightly patting Athena on the arm.
“Athena.” He whispered, trying not to move his body too much, trying not to disturb the two sleeping beauties beside him. “Turn around.”
Wriggling in her seat, she craned her neck and smiled at the sight of Buck and May, dozing quietly. May was currently leaning on Buck’s arm, her own draped around his stomach, something she’d probably done while she wasn’t conscious of it, and Buck's head was bowed, resting on the top of May’s.
“Don’t wake them up yet!” She exclaimed, angling her phone to take a picture. “This is so going in the group chat."

"I figured this was too good to celebrate over beer so I opened the champagne that you left in the fridge."
Buck doesn't know why.

He can’t risk losing anyone else, he won’t lose anyone else, not if he has any say in it. So if he has to be overbearing, he’ll take it. Rather alive and annoyed, than… well. The alternative.

Summary
The sting of the words did not last long, though. Bobby had said the words in that soft tone of his, a sense of finality behind them that he couldn’t shake. That finality clung to him. Like he was supposed to believe it even when every part of him wanted to scream that this wasn’t okay and he never would be. The rest of Bobby’s words echoed too. “They’re gonna need you.”
The moment the words had left Bobby’s lips, Buck knew what he was supposed to do. Keep them together. Keep them from falling apart and step up when the cracks started to show. So, that’s what he did.
