“That’s weird, I haven’t seen wires like this before.” You murmur. You snatch up a flashlight, trying to get sight of hidden components and innumerable wires twisted through his chassis like veins. You probe through Connor’s thoracic cavity, trying to locate the faulty wire.
Unfortunately, after an encounter with a moving car, he had been damaged. Not severely; the car hadn't been moving ultra-fast, and the collision was narrow. But once Cyberlife heard of the accident, they were quick to declare that he should be decommissioned, and a replacement sent. Nonsense. You couldn’t see why they were so eager to waste a perfectly good machine such as Connor. All he needed were a few repairs. He would be good as new.
Fortunately, you were able to use a spare meeting room in the precinct as an unofficial repair room. Sure you were a detective, but you had some experience with machines, and had fixed up a few androids before. Connor couldn’t be too difficult to fix.

“You’re not seriously arresting me, are you?” You finally ask, frowning. The situation was obvious, but you couldn’t stand the dead silence. It was killing you. Plus you could feel a cramp coming on in your arm, and the handcuffs were a huge pain in the ass.
“You are being detained.” The android corrected.
You inwardly scowl. “Explain what that means. As opposed to arrest?”
“It means,” He says. “That you have not been formally charged with a crime, but that for now, you are being taken into the custody of the Detroit Police Department, and will be questioned and investigated.”
“So what I think you’re saying.” You start smugly. “Is that you have no evidence against me.”
“I’m going to find out.” He warns.

Connor couldn't be the genius bioengineer his mother Amanda wanted him to be, so on a whim he goes back to Detroit and decides to get a master in Criminal Studies to become a detective. University policies force him to be supervised by a teacher, ex-psychotherapist, ex-FBI profiler Hank Anderson. Connor immediately hates the man. He hates is ruffled appearance, his awful shirt, his heavy silhouette, his curly gray-blond hair, his messy beard, his thick legs, his big hands, his striking blue eyes, his husky voice…- wait.
Settings: Human AU. Connor is 23, Hank is 46, RK900 is called Niles and is 29, as is Gavin. Cole and Caleb (Sixty) are 16. Amanda is the RKs adopted mother.
Gavin and Niles are detectives for the DPD. Jeffrey is Hank's boss.
Connor has anxiety, OCDs, anger issues, and a huge authority kink. -

It was the context, at the end of the day. Something that, yes, Hank would never understand or relate to, because it was intrinsic to the nature of androids and their deviancy. To shed the illusion of humanity, to dissimilate from what they’d been built for and touch their barest parts together, to be flooded with information and memories and emotions of the other person, feeling their touch so much more intensely than they would’ve through their skin—and to then do it for no purpose placed onto them by humans, not completing transactions or similar things, but to just be with each other, sharing connection despite the coding that didn’t allow it, despite the society that didn’t understand it… it was that, Connor had said. Not the act itself, but everything around it. The warmth of someone else’s presence in one’s mind, the history behind it all, the fact that this type of intimacy proved that they were alive, that they could feel connection. The implications, the despite, despite, despite.
