Enea thinks he's much more duplicitous and clever than he often is. And that's not meant to serve as an insult to his intelligence or character, only on rare occasions does Xiomara find it even lightly irritating, like when one of his hare brained schemes fall flat in the arena.
No, it's charming how he thinks she can't read him, how he thinks a joking tone hides how much it gets his blood rushing, how he thinks he can hide the quiver in his voice when she lets him call her that.
